Mind & Body Training Center

Love’s Door for All Nations works in Southern and Northern Zambia, among the most neglected and poor villages. In these areas 80% of the people are illiterate. We have been living among these people for 6 years and know of only a handful who have ever gone thru 12th grade. Most drop out before 7th grade and have not learned to read – some don’t even know the alphabet!

want schoolAnother great void in these areas is lack of skills. Very few of these village people have a marketable skill, and so they have very little industry other than finding enough fish and food for the day.

There is a desperate need here for a quality education and skills training facility. The villages just built a new school so the children don’t need to walk so far now, but the quality of education is still deplorable. Since the schools are operated by the government we can have little influence over the manner of teaching or the standards.

We already have 12 orphan children living in our House of Moses who go to the Community School, and 7 orphans in the House of Noah in the north. We tutor and minister to these children so that every one of them is near the top student in their class at school. But still they are far from the level they should be according to their age.

We also tutor about 55 other children in these villages that we sponsor to school. Since we just began this program 1 ½ years ago, many of them are still lagging far behind in school. Our goal is to bring about a community transformation in these most desperate areas. Education is one of the pillars.

village schoolTwo years ago we built a Community Center on our northern base and now there are 150 children in daily school there. Now we feel led to build an Education and Training Center on our southern base. The first year we will start with Kindergarten.

We will also continue to Family Table Tutoring Program for our orphans and sponsored children, but where it used to be two hours a week, we will increase this tutoring to 5 hours a week. Each year we will build another classroom and add another grade. We will also offer literacy classes for adults – something we are doing now on an individual basis.

We will make skills training a central theme in our school as well. Every student will have responsibilities in a garden business – learning as they grow how to be responsible, how to manage and trouble shoot, how to handle money and sell, etc. Eventually we will develop other skills schoolskills to incorporate into the learning experience. The goal is that each child may learn how to make a living for themselves.

English is the second language for all of these children, but it is the official language in Zambia and most schools use as much English as they can. But the heart language is not to be dismissed. Our goal is to have some trained Western teachers working alongside Zambian teachers, building the best teaching practices and standards into the school. But in the end, Zambians will be the ones trained and gifted to teach. Our whole mission is built on this foundation – empowering national leaders to operate the ministry themselves.

What this will cost:

$35,000                      25’ x 45’ double classroom building.

$5,000                          Solar power system for electricity.

$3,000                        Curriculum for Kindergarten, tutoring and literacy courses.

$12,000                      One year salary for two Zambian teachers.

GOAL: We are striving to bring many individuals and villages out of abject poverty of mind and spirit and body
